Francine Prose is a good critic. I’m interested by her account of ZULEIKHA and grateful to her for so determinedly bringing attention to Andrey Platonov! I'm surprised, though, by the way she confuses the 1921 famine (for the main part, a natural phenomenon) and the famine following collectivisation, which culminated in 1932-33. I even wonder if a sub-editor has mangled her article.
