We are currently looking to migrate our social care case files into our EDRM system and are looking at the current structure and retention requirements.
Do any ‘listers’ take an overall approach to their social care case files? Many retention schedules I’ve viewed separate the elements of a case file i.e. dispose of assessments after 10 years etc. However, I believe there is scope under business requirement and proportionate approach to retain all details for 75 years from date of birth (children’s). I see no rationale for disposing of elements of the file before then and the identification of such elements, and maintaining the different retention requirements would, in my view, be excessive.
In the same vein I would look to assign a retention of 100 years from date of adoption to the complete adoption case files etc.
If there are any known issues with this approach, I would very much appreciate some feedback before we progress with this build and migration.
