This kind of rights grab posing as a competition is an old and well known scam. All the major British Photography organisations have campaigned against it and all of their members will boycott such "competitions".
Try googling "photo competition copyright grab" for more.

From the competition's Ts&Cs:
https://geolsoc.files.wordpress.com/2019/01/geoscientist-cover-competition-terms-and-conditions-.pdf
"By entering the competition, all entrants grant to the Geological Society the right to publish or display their submissions and any extracts or images of these submissions, with full credit given, at the Geological Society’s premises and events, on its website and social media channels, in Geoscientist magazine and in other relevant marketing and publicity materials."
So for the cost of a single £100 prize, you get unlimited use of everyone's work, indefinitely.
This does not seem ethical.
