Do you know what your users are actually doing in your library?
Do you know what they feel about your library?
Do you talk to your users enough?
What is UX in Libraries?
The international User Experience in Libraries conference is all about sharing what is really going on in our libraries through the employment of user research methods, and the design of better services in response. UX research and design is increasingly becoming established and embedded in academic and public libraries across the globe, with the effect that they are offering more relevant and truly user-centric physical and digital services.
What format does the conference take?
In addition to our keynotes and plenary speakers (Anneli Friberg from Sweden, Suzanne Chapman from the USA, Penny Andrews from the UK), we offer a range of practical interactive workshops, an engaging problem-solving team challenge, delegate sharing sessions and an array of fun social activities including an international-themed quiz, a gala dinner and entertainment: this year singer Grace Petrie and comedian Sarah Mann.
Why is it called the 'international' UX in Libraries conference?
Our delegates come from all over the world not just from the UK (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, USA, Canada, Belgium, France, South Africa, Australia). This means that attendees get a better global picture of libraries and learn from staff truly at the cutting edge of innovative library research and service delivery, to say nothing of the networking and development opportunities that naturally arise from spending several days with library staff from all over the world.
Where and when?
This year we are at the beautiful Royal Holloway Campus in Egham, Surrey (15 mins by taxi from Heathrow). We start with registration and a social evening on the evening of Monday 17th June and finish on Wednesday 19th June. There is also a practical pre-conference workshop on the afternoon of the 17th if you want a concentrated catch-up on User Experience theory and practice.
Why now?
User experience is a fantastic fit for these times of budgetary constraint in which public and private institutions are more focused than ever on the experiences and views of their users. UX is a toolkit that can help you understand whether your library spaces and resources are truly meeting user needs and behaviours, and through the data gathered can help you to advocate for the relevance and value of your library in the lives of your users.
It's not too late to find out about UX. Book your place at: http://uxlib.org
We look forward to welcoming you to Royal Holloway in June.
Best wishes,
Andy
