Subject: Event record descriptions survey
Dear list members,
I'm e-mailing HER Forum in the hope that you will be able to help me by filling in a little survey. I've checked with the HIPs team and I have permission to post this so fingers crossed I get some responses.
Some of you may remember I left Historic England in 2017 to continue studying a BSc in Computing full time. I'm nearly at the end of my degree and I've started work on my final project. For my final project I am looking at generating HER event record summary descriptions from pdf reports using machine learning and natural language processing.
In order to inform the design of my algorithm I need to identify the most common information included in the summary description of HER event records. Some HERs have very kindly sent me copies of event records as a first step to answering this. Unsurprisingly the summaries differed, even within a single HER. Therefore I would like to see if there is a general pattern of what HERs put into their event record summaries and a general consensus as to the core information you think should be in there. This is so that I can concentrate on building an algorithm that works on the core elements of the description.
To that end I'm asking if you can fill in a survey about your event record summary descriptions? Even if you tend to copy and paste direct from the reports I'd appreciate you attempting the survey.
The survey takes about 20 minutes (for many it will take less).
The survey is at https://goo.gl/forms/D7sx6FbqbapPAnd53 and will close on Friday 15th March. I am looking for answers from as many different HERs as possible, regardless of which part of the country you are based in.
After I've closed the survey and collated the results I'm hoping to post an update to HER Forum in case anyone wants to use the stats for other projects.
If you have any queries about the survey or the project please don't hesitate to contact me on [log in to unmask] .
Many thanks
