Occupational Summary
A full-time research scientist position in real-time functional MRI neurofeedback is available immediately in the Cognitive Neurostimulation Program directed by R. Alison Adcock, MD PhD, at Duke University. https://www.adcocklab.org. In order to meet the challenge of developing new therapies appropriate for early intervention, the Cognitive Neurostimulation Program aims to understand how we use thoughts and behavior to regulate neuromodulatory brain systems and impact learning, performance, and well-being. Real-time fMRI neurofeedback is a burgeoning new field with exciting basic science and clinical applications, both under investigation in our group.
Work Performed
The primary responsibilities for the position include acquisition of real-time fMRI data (with human subjects), installation and maintenance of the research software tools, and off-line data analysis (quality assessments, data provenance, and hypothesis testing) for preparing manuscripts, grants and progress reports. The position entails planning, executing, and troubleshooting software configurations and analyses with minimal supervision. Writing opportunities are available according to the scientist’s interest. Supervision and training of students, postdoctoral researchers, and collaborators with the Python-based software tools (https://github.com/jeffmacinnes/pyneal) will also be an important contribution.
Education & Experience
Doctoral degree with training in functional MRI (data acquisition, management, and analysis) is required. Background in computer science, experience with human subjects research, and real-time fMRI experience are strong advantages.
Key Skills
Successful applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) for interacting with human subjects. Required skills include strong programming fluency in Python & Matlab and comfort with GitHub. Preferred, but not required skills include experience with TCP/IP and other network communications.
The proposed start date is immediately (Spring 2019). Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with additional funding conditional upon satisfactory performance. Salary is commensurate with applicant experience.
