I have a question related to the use of the relion_particle_symmetry_expand function that came up in this thread. In the case of icosahedral viruses, it may not be necessary to "expand" the orientations from 60-fold icosahedral symmetry to no-symmetry, or at least, not necessary to do this in one step. The benefit is to maintain some advantage of symmetry while exploring the unique portal vertex of dsDNA phages, and to reduce the run-time for processing particles that are already sizable. If I have begun by imposing I4 (icosahedral with an icosahedral 5-fold axis along the Z-axis), how can I "expand" from I4 to c5 symmetry where the 5-fold along Z is preserved?
Thanks for any pointers,
James Conway
