Hello All,
We’re looking at tweaking AtoM to be able to use handles (e.g. http://hdl.handle.net/10107/4575864) instead of uploading or pointing to image files. Including the handles will also trigger the automatic embedding of the Universal Viewer. When we migrated our MARC data to AtoM we placed information regarding digital copies in the Allied materials area under Existence and location of copies section e.g.
https://archives.library.wales/index.php/cywyddau-by-dafydd-ap-gwilym-and-others
Which displays in EAD as follows
  <altformavail encodinganalog="3.5.2">
      <p>Online version available on the Library's website: http://hdl.handle.net/10107/4391408 (viewed December 2016).</p>
    </altformavail>

We’re now thinking that the handle should be included in the Digital object metadata area. Mainly because this is what external consumers of the EAD (i.e. Archives Hub) will be using for displaying the digitised copy i.e. using the dao element from within the EAD xml

<dao linktype="simple" href="http://hdl.handle.net/10107/4755114" role="master" actuate="onrequest" show="embed"/>
Also hopefully we’ll be able to use some of the other functionality within AtoM to display all Digital objects etc. I’m wondering do we keep the more descriptive information in the Allied materials area under Existence and location of copies section or do we remove this. Thought I’d ask to see what others are doing in this situation, although I know which way I think we'll probably go with this. So do you have information regarding the digital copy just in the Digital object metadata section, or do you have it in both Digital object metadata section and Existence and location of copies section? Be good to hear what others are doing.
Thanks,
Vicky
