Thanks André for your important intervention.
Re Gluckman: not only did he have Jewish Eastern European ancestry, he was also a white (thus settler) South African whose anthropology critiqued the fundamental precepts of segregationist South Africa - precepts that now drive the kinds of boundary building represented by ‘fortress Europe’, Trump’s wall, and Brexiteering among other examples.
Many white Southern African anthropologists who obtained their qualifications ‘at home’ and have continued to work there have faced the challenge you identify.

Dear Mariske,
Your query raises important points and questions, and I e.g. learned from reading Chua and Mathur (2018). There have been a lot of interesting attempts to decolonize the curriculum in recent decades, some are discussed in Anthro-blogs like Allegralab (e.g. http://allegralaboratory.net/a-conversation-with-de-colonizer-research-and-art-laboratory-for-social-change-palestine/<https://protect-za.mimecast.com/s/q6EyC0go6LflYWgmsEWnQk>) and in Savage Minds (e.g. https://savageminds.org/2016/08/17/what-does-it-mean-to-decolonize-anthropology-in-canada/<https://protect-za.mimecast.com/s/6vYvCg5Dg2Sn4WwGFR9cMg>).

De-Colonizer: Research and Art Laboratory for Social Change is a project that we, as Allegra Lab, could not ignore when doing our researches for this thematic thread on AAA, BDS and #Palestine. Indeed, the idea of sharing knowledge with a broader audience, not limited to small circles of experts and academics, is
To complicate the problematic, is one implicated by Colonialism even when trying to decolonialize the world? Can white people write from the South and decolonize anthropology, too? Most anthropologists face the conundrum. Especially acute it seems for South African Whites like the Comaroffs (Comaroff, Jean, and John L. Comaroff. 2015. Theory from the South: Or, How Euro-America Is Evolving Toward Africa. 1st ed. Routledge).
But my favourite, and much earlier, extended case study of this problematic is that of the Rhodes Livingstone Institute (opened in the 1930s), later better known under the label Manchester School of Social Anthropology. Its main protagonist was Max Gluckman - a white man, but also a critic of South African racism. Gluckman, with Eastern European Jewish roots, was an Atheist and became a fellow traveller of Communism. In 1938-9 he was evicted forever from fieldwork in Zululand, by a joint Kabale of colonial white and royal Zulu powerholders. His research inspired later e.g. World Systems Theory. For the first ever (!) biography of Gluckman, see Gordon,Robert J. 2018. The Enigma of Max Gluckman: The Ethnographic Life of a ‘Luckyman’ in Africa. Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press.

I believe a great name of actual brazilian anthropology is Rosana
Pinheiro-Machado. She studied the routes of black market from Chine passing
by Paraguay and arriving in Brazil. She is actually studying brzilian
Bolsonarism phenomenon (Bolsonaro is our extreme-right president, elected
with periphery votes in Brazil). She recently gave a series of oral
communications in USA universities ("From hope to hate" was her main
subject of communication). She is also writting to an important brazilian
left journal, Carta Capital.
If you want, I can give you her email and tell her you will be in contact.
