Hi Mariske
One thing that might be interesting to think about is how 'other'
anthropologies have also been part of a colonial project or gaze. In
particular, Chinese and Japanese anthropology are not 'western' per se, but
have also been part of colonizing projects. In my opinion and experience,
its important to include these examples so that students don't equate
'decolonial/postcolonial' with non-whiteness.
There is good historical work on this issue (particularly in relation to
Taiwan), and a decent English-language copy of Fei Xiaotong's work that the
students could read as an example of Chinese anthropology, but I'm not sure
if there is much else translated into English.
