Course Information
* R is one of the most popular programming languages and software environment for statistical computing and graphics.
* During this course you will learn how to use R and its capabilities including data wrangling, graphics, writing report with R Markdown and tidyverse.
* Our instructors (Prof. Antony Unwin and Dr. Louis Aslett) are very experienced users of R, having provided numerous R training courses for over the years and used R in their own research environment.
* Our instructors will help you through the practical exercises after each session in a hands-on computer lab environment, answering any queries or questions you have.
* We encourage you to bring some of your own data to the course as there will be time to discuss what R can contribute to your analyses.
About the Instructors
* Prof. Antony Unwin – Antony is a Director of Insight Statistical Consulting and former professor of computer-oriented statistics and data analysis at the University of Augsburg (formerly of Trinity College Dublin). He is a fellow of the American Statistical Society, co-author of the book “Graphics of Large Datasets”, and co-editor of the “Handbook of Data Visualisation”. His research focuses on data visualisation, especially in interactive graphics. Antony is author of the book “Graphical Data Analysis with R” published in 2015 by CRC Press and has written two R packages himself. See his blog on comparing outlier detection methods with the OutliersO3 package on Revolutions here.
* Dr Louis Aslett delivers R training courses throughout the year for Insight. He completed his PhD in Mathematical Statistics from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Durham University. Before that he spent 4 years in a pure research role in Chris Holmes’ group at the University of Oxford and as Junior Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College. He is author of several R packages and is also the maintainer of freely available RStudio server AMIs for easy and rapid deployment of R into the Amazon cloud service.
