SHORT COURSE ON TRANSPORT AND THE ECONOMY
LEEDS, UK. 4TH – 5TH APRIL 2019
Transport’s impact on the economy remains very relevant in transport planning. Now in its fifth year the Institute for Transport Studies is pleased to offer a two day short course on Transport Infrastructure and Economic Performance. After attending this course transport professionals will:
• have a solid grasp of how, when, why and to what extent transport infrastructure affects businesses and the economy,
• how and why different economy modelling methods give rise to different predictions of economy impacts,
• understand how to incorporate economic impacts into a transport cost benefit analysis, and
• the relationship between welfare and GDP appraisal metrics.
The course is suitable for transport economists, transport professionals working in the field of economic impacts and those who intend to become involved in this field and already have an understanding of economics. It is suitable for consultants, government officials, academics and PhD students. It is refreshed every year. It has recently been updated to reflect the new webTAG wider impacts guidance released in May 2018, recent research on agglomeration impacts and ex post evidence on transport schemes, as well as being enhanced through the inclusion of case study discussion sessions.
The course is based at the University of Leeds on April 4th and April 5th. Further information on the course is available at: https://environment.leeds.ac.uk/transport/dir-record/shortcourses/571/transport-infrastructure-and-economic-performance.
For those interested a Transport Investment Appraisal course is also being run on the three days immediately preceding it (April 1st to April 3rd). https://environment.leeds.ac.uk/transport/dir-record/shortcourses/568/transport-investment-appraisal
