Call for participants and bursary applications
Doctoral and Early-Career Symposium on Academic Creativity and Openness
Wednesday the 26th of June 2019, The Open University, Milton Keynes, UK
Are you a Doctoral researcher or an early-career academic? Would you like to spend a day thinking, talking and learning about doing academia differently with established as well as emerging scholars? Would you like to meet others and make friends ahead of the International CMS conference? If so, please sign up for our symposium! It will take place the day before the CMS conference, providing an ideal opportunity for delegates to attend both events, if they so wish (however, there is no obligation to do so).
The aim of the symposium is to ‘open up’ academic work and careers in order to help participants create new, innovative solutions to some of the complex tensions and dilemmas academics face today. We have a great line-up of speakers and facilitators running sessions on writing and teaching differently, career problem solving, opening up publishing, power and resistance strategies, collaborating with technology, academic activism, and critical friendship. Generously funded by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) and the Open University Business School, the symposium is free to attend, and a number of bursaries are available to cover expenses for those in need of financial assistance.
Places are limited, so please sign up as soon as possible ahead of the March the 31st application deadline. For more information about the symposium and how to apply to attend, please see the symposium website:

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Alex Bristow, [log in to unmask] .
With best wishes,
The organisers: Alex Bristow, Emma Bell, Jo Brewis and Peter Bloom
