What do you mean by 'compressed MRCS'? Which program wrote them?
Could you show me the result of 'header' command from IMOD?
RELION should be able to read most MRC files.
If the file is in integers, you can use 'mrc2tif' command from IMOD
to convert it to TIFF to save your disk space.
