Dear Colleagues
Have you ever had to take archives/records into court?
Have your archives ever been involved in legal proceedings?
Are you scared of the prospect of your archives/records being involved in the justice system?
Can you help others as a result of your experience of archives in the legal system?
I am currently undertaking research on behalf of ARA North West on the use of archives and records within court. The ultimate aim of this work is to produce an outline guidance document for archivists, records managers and others. We are interested in hearing from archivists and records managers who have EITHER:
- been involved in managing the use of archives in court
- have developed internal guidelines for the use of archives in court
We are looking to make these contacts to help to gather best practice and with a view to undertaking phone interviews and running a discussion workshop.
At the moment we are defining court to mean the justice system in general and across the UK, so all contributions are very welcome. It may be that you have been involved in high-profile, court cases or in small civil cases. You could have established procedures or you may not, but know what you would need procedures to cover. We want to hear from you if you have a contribution to make.
Drop me a line if you would like to discuss the research further, or if you could contribute.
Regards
Janice
