Hi All

You may be aware that the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) has recently started a new Archives Community Group, which is actively looking at the best ways to make archival resources available over IIIF. More info at https://iiif.io/community/groups/archives/. In case IIIF is new to you, it's a set of shared specifications for interoperable digital image functionality that has great potential for displaying archival materials. It enables advanced interactivity for end users, such as fast rich zoom and pan; manipulation of size, scale, rotation and quality; annotation; assembly and comparison; citation and sharing. There's lots more information at https://iiif.io/. If you've never seen any IIIF image functionality used with archives, here's a couple of examples:

Boston Public, Library Anti-Slavery Collection - https://www.digitalcommonwealth.org/search/commonwealth:7s75fx18h

Duke University, W. Duke, Sons & Co. Advertising Materials, 1880-1910 - https://repository.duke.edu/dc/wdukesons/dscsi02176

We’re now looking for proposals for our IIIF Annual Conference 2019 coming up in June - details below. It would be great to have a substantial presence from the UK archives community.

The 2019 IIIF conference will be held in Göttingen, Germany between the 24th to 28th of June. The conference is hosted by the University of Göttingen / Göttingen State and University Library. The outline for the conference is below:

	• Monday June 24th - IIIF Showcase

	• Tuesday June 25th - Workshops and working meetings

	• Wednesday June 26th - IIIF Conference plenary

	• Thursday June 27th and Friday AM June 28th - IIIF Conference parallel sessions

Further details on the conference can be found at:

https://iiif.io/event/2019/goettingen/

The Göttingen Planning committee are looking for proposals for talks in the following forms:

	• Up to a ½ day workshop

	• 7 to 10 minute lightning talks

	• 20 minute presentations (plus 10 mins questions)

	• 90 minute open block (Could be panel session or grouped presentations)

Please submit an abstract of no longer than 500 words for your presentation or discussion by Friday the 1st of March using the conference tool:

https://goo.gl/forms/qNOT6i2IAW75C6NS2

Final versions of the accepted abstracts will be made available on the conference website and presentations are to be uploaded to google drive.

We encourage showcasing developments in IIIF and in particular would welcome presentations in the following areas:

	• Annotation, including full-text or academic use cases

	• Using IIIF material for Machine Learning and AI

	• Discovering IIIF resources

	• Audio/Visual use cases for IIIF

	• Linked Open “Usable” Data (LOUD) and IIIF

	• IIIF Implementation Spectrum: large-scale or small-scale projects

	• Interoperability in IIIF contexts

	• Implementations of IIIF outside of North America/Europe

	• IIIF communities (3D, archives, museums, manuscripts, newspapers, etc.)

If you have any questions please contact the Göttingen Program Committee [log in to unmask]
