Dear List members,
A fully-funded AHRC PhD research studentship is available from September 2019 on the project "The Manchester Together Archive: memory, resilience and healing".
This collaborative PhD project will study ca7,500 written messages left in the spontaneous memorial in St Ann’s Square in Manchester after the Manchester Arena bombing (22/5/17), which together with other items have formed the “Manchester Together Archive”, located in and managed by Manchester Art Gallery (MAG). The PhD research will explore how notions and issues of spontaneous memorialisation, collective memory, identity construction, and community resilience and healing are acted, represented and communicated in the messages. The research will also inform the way MAG approaches and caters for memorial material culture within a visual arts context and help MAG rethink the nature of art collections in a civic museum.
The PhD project will be supervised jointly by Dr Kostas Arvanitis (University of Manchester) and Amanda Wallace (Manchester Art Gallery).
Deadline: Thursday 28th February 5pm GMT
Interviews: Thursday 7th March
