A call for papers on the following panel. Please note that the panel will only proceed if a sufficient number of suitable paper abstracts are received by February 26th. Please email abstracts to me directly at arifcg@nus,edu.sg
Abstract: Based on the concept that the extensive inclusion of dialogues within ethnography facilitates the possibility of further interpretations and insights on the part of the reader, this call for papers is looking for those which include the reproduction of dialogue in the research of spiritual, esoteric, discarnate, metaphysical and religious rituals and phenomena. While the term ‘ethnography’ is open to various interpretations, the basis of most anthropological studies involves dialogue with religious specialists or perhaps the discarnate phenomena themselves. Unfortunately, these dialogues commonly tend to remain as field notes rather than being reproduced in academic literature. This panel aims to addresses Tedlock & Mannhelm’s (1995) ‘hierarchical imbalance’ placing anthropological discourse over field discourse in academic literature.
