Dear Statisticians,
The January 2019 issue of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) newsletter The Survey Statistician is now available at:
http://isi-iass.org/home/wp-content/uploads/Survey_Statistician_January_2019.pdf
See http://isi-iass.org/home/services/the-survey-statistician/ for previous issues of the newsletter.
This issue carries some important announcements and letters from the IASS President Peter Lynn and Scientific Secretary Risto Lehtonen. They present the current situation on the ongoing organizational work for the 62th World Statistical Congress (WSC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 18-23, 2019. Attention is paid to the conferences supported by IASS in 2018 and future events supported by IASS in 2019. The IASS President encourages people to get involved in technical assistance to the developing countries. Besides our regular features of country reports on activities related to survey statistics, Table of Contents of relevant journals and announcements for upcoming conferences, we publish special articles.
The current issue contains the following:
* New and Emerging Methods section includes an article Calibration methods for small domain estimation by Risto Lehtonen (University of Helsinki) and Ari Veijanen (Statistics Finland).
* The Ask the Experts section provides a response by Frauke Kreuter to the question What are alternative data sources, and how to use them?
* Book & Software Review section includes two overviews:
Sahar Z. Zangeneh (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, USA) presents a book Statistical Analysis with Missing Data by Roderick J.A. Little and Donald B. Rubin (2002) 2nd ed. published by John Wiley & Sons;
Andrés Gutiérrez (Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Colombia) presents a book Survey Weights: A Step-by-step Guide to Calculation by Richard Valliant and Jill A. Dever (2017) published by Stata Press.
We thank all of the section editors and contributors to the newsletter.
