ARA Northern Region Meeting – Monday 18th February 2018, 2pm

The first Northern regional meeting of 2019 will consider the ways in which artists and those with an interest in the arts interact, use and re-use archival materials. There will be three 20 minute presentations including a short break and discussion opportunity before the regional business meeting, which includes further opportunities to learn more about the region’s role as a venue for the ARA conference in 2019.
Tea and coffee will be provided and the meeting will begin at 2pm and should end around 4.30pm, to be held in the Learning Laboratory of Barnsley Town Hall.
‘Exploring Creativity in the archives’ – Lindsay Ince from the University of Huddersfield will discuss the resources and support required from the archive supporting artistic residencies, drawing on their experience hosting a Leverhulme Artist in Residence.
‘Artist Archivist Travelling Studio’ – Peter Morphew is the Artist Archivist. Having trained as an Archivist who has always maintained a personal artistic interest, Peter has for some years married his interests into a combined practice and will talk about his previous projects and aspirations for future arts projects in the archives.
‘Through the Door’, - David Mander, Ex-chair of Archives for London and Isobel Colchester, Chief Executive Officer of Poet in the City will talk about this successful London based –project exploring the work of poets in seven London boroughs to create poetry reacting to their surroundings, which has led to further work in Yorkshire and the North East.
The meeting will be held at Experience Barnsley in Barnsley Town Hall, which is just a five minute walk from the Transport Interchange (train/bus services). Further venue details, as well as information about car parks in close proximity can be found at:
