Dear Luca,
Usually, inclusive masking or small volume correction correspond to the
adjustment of p-values to control for false positive or discovery rates
over either the whole brain or a restricted volume, while a ROI analysis
corresponds to summarising data within a region of interest (usually by
averaging) and performing a single test, eschewing multiple comparison.
If one makes multiple ROIs inferences, one should control for the number
of ROIs, e.g. by using a Bonferroni correction.
