Hi Kevin
I wonder how much is also the changing nature of the workforce. For example at present you’re advertising for an AV person on a fixed terms contract.
Running conferences I come into contact with lots of people in that line of work, and increasingly they seem to work freelance.
In a city like London there is so much work around for them. So they can make much more money freelancing than working in house.
I think that goes for other digital roles too.
Most of the developers who worked for me when I ran an agency are now freelancing for a living and are able to earn £500 a day, even in Newcastle.
Thinking of the Royal Geographical Society where we’ve run our MuseumNext and Culture Geek events recently. The AV team we work with there are all freelancers who they work with on a regular basis.
Our booking with the venue outlines everything we need in terms of AV and then the venue book the staff in accordingly.
I’m sure these staff are paid more than in-house people, but the cost is all passed onto us and marked up.
Anyway, hope you get someone soon.
All the best
Jim
