HI Bek,
Second the suggestions Cat and Becky have made!
If your using HBSMR the user guides have helped bring things together in terms of using the Database alongside own HER produced guidance or manuals.
I would also recommend having a look through the HER Forum archive and file store as this helped me when I was getting into back into role when I first started alongside IFP2 and midas.
Feel free to email off list as well if you have any questions.
All the best
Andrew

Hi Bek,
IFP is probably the most useful starting guide, but MIDAS Heritage( https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/publications/midas-heritage/) is also very useful as it provides an understanding of why we record the types of information we do.
Feel free to also send me an email if you have any questions.
Good luck!
Becky

Hi Bek
Take a look at the Informing the Future of the Past: Guidelines for Historic Environment Records - https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/ifp/
Most HERs also have specific recording policies/procedures which may be of help. Happy to speak off list :)

Subject: reading suggestions
Hello,
I am wondering if anyone (esp HER officers or assistants) have any suggestions for reading material for those quite new to a HER role, things that would help with general understanding and more specialist understanding too. I am happy with HER searches and I am now building my confidence on adding reports to the HER. I'm not completely new to the task but I know that I want to build my knowledge so that the process is easier. Is there any thing that anyone read when they were quite new to HERs that they specifically found really useful?
Thank you,
Bek
