This book is quite wonderful and by all accounts Jane (the translator) is an unusually gifted speaker. Do come, if at all possible, to Pushkin House (Bloomsbury) on 22 Jan to hear her speak about it:

I have never seen such unanimously enthusiastic reviews on Amazon
And here is a link to Jane's evening at Pushkin House (22 Jan):

Jane was once a professional ice-skater and she brings that grace, deftness and lightness of touch into all her work.
Do come if you can - and forward this to friends. Jane has travelled from North Carolina in order to speak at Pushkin House and - because she is young and not (yet) a big name, ticket sales are still low.
