Want to study at a historical location that was the birthplace of modern design?
Then Weimar might be your place to be
In our 2-year English-language M.Sc. programme, students focus on theoretical and practical issues in current Computer Science research in interface design and interactive system development. This technically-oriented HCI programme further offers the opportunity to attend courses and projects from other study programs, such as Media Art and Design, Architecture, and in Art and Design.
All study-programs at BUW have a large project-oriented component - students of HCI take part in 2 group research projects, which (in terms of ECTS) make up 1 out of your 4 semesters. Moreover, there is the option to do a 3d project in e.g. Media-Architecture or Design as part of the electives. The program finishes with a 1-semester Master theses.

Weimar is a small town and University, but the city benefits from its touristy appeal, so there is a lot going on in terms of festivals and events. It has a very active student community and faithful graduates that contribute to a lively alternative scene (e.g. Genius-Loci Facade festival, Gaswerk Weimar, student parties and pubs, etc.). Being small means it is easy to get to know people from other disciplines and to get involved, as well as a very direct relationship with teaching staff.
Students need to have solid technical skills - this means we require the equivalent of at least a minor in CS (1/3d of classes), e.g. from programs such as Information Systems, Media Technology, Business Computing - and to have interest both in enhancing their technical skills and in working with people, learning HCI research methods etc..
Our graduates can work across the technology-usability divide, and tend to land in technical UX areas, as creative technologist, interface developers, UX designers, or continue into research.
Students who did their Bachelor within the EU, can still apply (directly with the University, not the uni-assist link) until late March. The next semester starts on April 1st.
(studies can begin both in the winter and summer semester).
