Conservation Technician (Part-time)
The National Archives is looking for a part time Conservation Technician to work as part of a team of conservation professionals responsible for the preservation of The National Archives' physical collection through interventive and preventive means. This will be achieved through a combination of special projects and on-going programmes, taking the lead on technical aspects such as identification of mould and mould cleaning, working together with colleagues across the organisation, external visitors and stakeholders.
About the role:
The aim of this role is to provide technical support to prolong the life of the collection, maximise access to the archival records and enhance the experience of our users.
The role will carry out interventive and preventive treatments in order to deliver projects efficiently to agreed targets and professional standards. Provide technical support for on-going Collection Care/ Commercial Delivery programmes, including support for internal projects at The National Archives. Collect and report the facts and evidence to support decision-making, e.g. through collection surveys and condition checking. Ensure all documentation is carried out according to departmental procedures and assess and manage risks to The National Archives' collections in accordance with the profession's code of ethics, e.g. in matters of storage and mould identification.
About you:
You will bring excellent practical skills and accuracy to the work of the Collection Care Department to a professional standard. You will possess a working knowledge of preservation/conservation treatments and ethics or appropriate work experience.
You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise own workload and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will also have the ability to undertake physically demanding or repetitive tasks in line with health and safety requirements, along with the ability to work collaboratively to deliver outcomes to an agreed standard and timetable.
