Project Archivist - Bernal Peace Collection
The Marx Memorial Library is looking for a keen, self-motivated Project Archivist to work part time cataloguing and re-packing the MML’s Bernal Peace Collection (2 days, 14 hours per week for a 20 week period at £24,960 p.a. pro-rata). This would suit someone recently qualified, or someone close to course completion who has already finished their cataloguing/description module.
John Desmond Bernal (1901-1971) was a pivotal figure in twentieth century science, a passionate socialist and visionary of the beneficial role of science in society and a driving force in the world-wide peace campaigning.
The post holder will be responsible for cataloguing the archive collection to series and file level to ISAD(G) standard on our online Soutron catalogue, repacking the collection and – on occasion - working on related outreach activities to facilitate access to the collection, such as uploading content to the MML website and assisting with the organisation of relevant events.
The Marx Memorial Library, founded in 1933, is a library, archive, museum and education charity. Our collections, classes, lectures and events focus on the science of Marxism, the history of socialism and the working-class movement. The Project Archivist, able to work independently and manage their own time effectively, will play a central role in the day to day life of the MML as part of a small, dynamic team.
