*Research Associate (Italy or another European country)*
The ASYFAIR research team – Professor Nick Gill (Principle Investigator)
and Dr. Nicole Hoellerer (Research Fellow for the project) – wish to
recruit a Research Associate.
This European Research Council funded post will start in March 2019 on a
full time basis, and will last for a period of *6 months*.
The post will involve *recruiting and interviewing refugees *who have
experience of the asylum appeal process and *legal practitioners* such as
immigration lawyers. The intention is to interview 60 people over the
period of the contract, so *good existing contacts with a refugee support
group, legal community or refugee community* in a European country would be
an advantage.

interviewees in *Italy*, but consideration will also be given to applicants
who have access to interviewees in *Greece* or *another European country*.
There might be some prolonged periods of fieldwork in Italy (or, if agreed,
another European country).
You will join a highly successful and dynamic team of researchers at the
University of Exeter, and the study will involve qualitative analysis and
surveys of asylum determination procedures in various European countries
including France, Germany and the UK. The post will involve ethnographic
research of asylum appeal hearings in France, as well as survey-based work.
The successful applicant will hold *at least a Masters* in a relevant
social science discipline such as, but not limited to, Human Geography,
Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Migration Studies or Politics.
The post-holder must be able *to conduct interviews in Italy* (or, if
agreed at the interview, another European country) which may well mean
being based in Italy (or another European country if agreed at interview)
for the majority of the contract.
*Specifications:*
· Applicants must be able *to conduct research interviews*
effectively and contribute ideas to the *coding* and *analysis* of findings
· Applicants should be *native speakers or fluent* in the language
of the European country the interviews are being conducted at (as agreed at
the interview)
· Awareness of *research ethics*
· Some of the interviews may need to be translated to English, and
all will need to be transcribed. There are separate funds for these
activities but the post-holder must be *able to work effectively* with
translators and transcribers to deliver the translated and transcribed
interviews on time
