Subject: JOB | DataScientistJobs - Enterprise Data Architect, EUMETSAT

Enterprise Data Architect, EUMETSAT - Darmstadt, Germany

Are you able to use your expertise in data management and data access systems for the benefit of essential meteorological services in Europe and globally? If so, then EUMETSAT is the place to be!

The Role

We are looking for an expert in data management and access systems to help us to evolve towards a more ‘data-centric’ approach for the delivery of data services to users. You will design, develop and maintain our big data architectures, systems and data services, ensuring that we able to exploit and manipulate our meteorological information to enhance the services that we provide, now and in the future. When analysing our user requirements, you will research and explore innovations in the industry, proposing concepts and solutions that match our assets. Using your technical expertise, you will specify, design and manage the testing and implementation of any new technologies in line with the evolving needs of our customers and users, identifying opportunities to streamline data services and the way we supply them to others.

Subject: EVENT: 1st UK Reliability Meeting, 1-3 April 2019 at Durham University

The 1st UK Reliability Meeting will take place at Durham University, 1–3 April 2019.

The objective is to develop an annual meeting series to bring together researchers

and practitioners in reliability theory from across the UK. The meeting combines

postgraduate lectures on basic aspects of reliability theory and applications with

a workshop. Eight postgraduate lectures, each about 50 minutes, will be presented

by academic staff from leading UK academic Reliability groups, including from the

universities of Durham, Liverpool, Loughborough, Nottingham and Strathclyde.

The workshop will enable academic staff, students and practitioners to present their

recent or ongoing research or to discuss open problems, probably in presentations

of about 20 minutes and only requiring a title and abstract. The aim is to leave ample

time for discussions. There will also be a key-note lecture by an international leading

researcher in the field.

Details are available on:

http://www.maths.dur.ac.uk/stats/uk-reliability/

Note that thee are no fees for participating at this meeting! While the main aim is

to bring together the UK Reliability community, the meeting is of course open to

everybody (we are assuming here that people can actually travel into the UK the

week following Brexit..).

Best wishes

Frank Coolen

Subject: Job: Open Positions in Statistics and Data Science, University of Bath, UK

Dear allstat,

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is a leading UK department in both research and teaching, with a large, diverse, and vibrant academic staff, and a culture of inter- and intra-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge transfer with industry. We host the successful EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics (SAMBa) which bolsters the department’s recruitment of talented doctoral students. In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation helps businesses solve complex mathematical and statistical problems, and promotes cross-campus research activities and international collaborations.

In a concerted effort to enhance and broaden our strength in Statistics and related fields, we are seeking ambitious people with an outstanding track record of independent research of international standing who will build on existing departmental strengths, or expand our research into new areas of statistics and data science. We particularly welcome applications in the environment, genetics and evolution, public health and medicine, networks, machine learning, and uncertainty quantification.

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides for a high quality of life, together with proximity to Bristol and excellent transport connections with London.

The positions available are as follows:

- One position at the level of Professor, Reader or Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Statistics

- One position at the level of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Statistics

As part of our growth strategy, we also welcome proposals for joint candidatures and group building opportunities.

Subject: CONFERENCE: ISIPTA 2019

ISIPTA 2019: there’s more to uncertainty than probabilities!

What if we told you that

“There’s more to uncertainty than probabilities.”

Would you agree? Would you object? Are you intrigued? Regardless of the answer, you have a place at, and are invited to submit a paper to, ISIPTA 2019, the 20-year anniversary edition of the world’s main forum on imprecise probabilities.

Already convinced? Then come to Ghent, Belgium, 3-6 July 2019, and take a look at the following website for any and all details you might require: http://isipta2019.ugent.be.

Not convinced yet? Then perhaps the following features can convince you:

Topic: ISIPTA 2019 is devoted to robustness and imprecision in uncertainty modelling, inference and decision making, focusing in particular on uncertainty frameworks that extend or replace the probabilistic one.

Concept: Each accepted contribution is presented and discussed, in two separate sessions. Presentations are short and plenary. Detailed explanations and discussions are face-to-face, with the aid of a poster, a whiteboard, pen and paper, or whichever medium you prefer.

Atmosphere: ISIPTA conferences are characterised by a friendly and cooperative style, a strong emphasis on in-depth discussion and a true openness to new ideas. We hope that you too will both enjoy and contribute to this unique atmosphere.

Venue: Ghent has been called “Belgium’s best kept secret” by the Lonely Planet travel guide and a “medieval masterpiece” by The Guardian. The conference itself takes place in an old Augustinian monastery, situated in its historic city centre.

Types of contributions: We accept long papers, short papers and poster abstracts. Papers are published in a volume of PMLR, unless explicitly preferred otherwise by their authors.

We look forward to receiving your contribution and/or to seeing you in Ghent!

Sincerely,

The ISIPTA 2019 Steering Committee and PC board

F. Cozman (University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) J. De Bock (Ghent University, Belgium) G. de Cooman (Ghent University, Belgium) C. de Campos (Utrecht University, The Netherlands) E. Quaeghebeur (Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands) T. Seidenfeld (Carnegie Mellon University, USA) G. Wheeler (Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany)
