Internationally-renowned human rights leader, Co-Founder of Argentina’s Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo and prominent member of its Founding Line, will deliver a one-off public meeting on Thursday 7th February 2019 at 6pm.

Nora, anti-debt activist Beverly Keene will address the deteriorating human and labour rights situation in Argentina and Latin America, the protests to legalise abortion, the impact of sovereign debt, the IMF and U.S. interventionism in the region, as well as the need to reinforce international solidarity in the face of increasing global tensions. They will be briefly in London before her participation in the International Peace Delegation that will visit Turkey the following week. They will also call to end the solitary confinement of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and other political prisoners in Turkey and a Kurdish academic (tbc) will speak more about the human rights situation there.

Nora Cortiñas is co-founder of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, Argentina’s inspirational movement of mothers who lost their children to the brutal military dictatorship (1976-1983) that ‘disappeared’ 30,000 people. Her son, Carlos Gustavo, was arrested by the military junta in Argentina on 15th April 1977 and never found. She has since dedicated her life to campaigning for human rights causes.

Beverly Keene is the Director of Dialogue 2000-Jubilee South, an NGO that campaigns against illegitimate external debts in less powerful countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
