This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious post-doctoral research associate to join the MRC Biostatistics Unit to carry out research within the "Statistical methods Using data Resources to improve Population Health (SURPH)" programme. A component of this programme is devoted to develop statistical methodology to address substantive problems in the epidemiology of infectious diseases with the ultimate goal of providing accurate and timely quantitative support to public health policies. You will join an internationally renowned Biostatistics Unit and a team working at the cutting edge of development and application of Bayesian evidence synthesis.
This role will focus on developing approaches to implementation and evaluation of adaptive vaccine trials in the midst of an emerging epidemic. The post will be part of a cross-institution research team working on the project "Leveraging Pathogen Sequence Data and Adaptive Designs to Improve Vaccine Trials in Emerging Epidemics in LMICs", funded by the NIHR under a vaccine epidemiology call. The research collaboration includes academic partners at Harvard University (Harvard School of Public Health) and the University of Oxford, as well as the MRC-BSU team working in the Design and Analysis of Randomised Trials" (DART) programme.
You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in statistics, biostatistics or a related discipline and will be experienced in one or more of the following areas: Bayesian statistics, computational statistics, trial design. You will have demonstrated the ability to develop new statistical methodology, have good computational skills (e.g. advanced use of statistical packages such as R), good communication skills and the ability to write scientific papers. You will play an active role in the development of the research group, by undertaking and supporting research through introduction of new ideas, publication in leading statistical/application journals, presentation of research at workshops and conferences and by training of others. This position is within the team led by Daniela De Angelis, but you will also work closely with the other teams within the Unit and actively interact with the relevant external collaborators.
The MRC Biostatistics Unit aims to advance medical science by the development, application and dissemination of statistical methods. It is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions and includes many internationally renowned statisticians. It provides a privileged environment for conducting research within the Cambridge biomedical environment.
