The theme of the Helsinki conference is Towards human scale cities – Open and happy. The conference calls for presentations on advancements in the field of transport, communication and mobility. The focus of the conference will be on urban transportation and the new possibilities that open data and digital technologies provide for mobility solutions. In addition to papers on the conference theme, we welcome papers on topics in fields of transport, communications and mobility at large. Widening Impact Analysis and Participation in Project Appraisal. Cluster 1 calls for papers on widening transport project appraisal frameworks and public participation, which important to move towards more sustainable and equitable transport in human scale cities. Topics of interests include: (i) critical commentaries on the use of CBA and/or MCA, dominance of time savings, aggregation of impact analysis and analyst-led processes, (ii) evidence of ‘intangible impacts’ within the appraisal process, (iii) accounting for ‘good growth’ impacts associated with transport investments, (iv) approaches to participatory weighting and aggregation of criteria, multi-actor and (v) participatory multi-criteria analysis and (vi) deliberative approaches to project appraisal. Planning the future of transport for sustainable, open and happy cities. Cluster 2 calls for papers dealing with the policy shift to sustainable, efficient, and shared transport which is needed to move towards human scale cities. Topics of interest include how sustainable mobility plans (SUMP) should address equity, mobility and stakeholders’ needs, assessing environmental impacts of innovative solutions and transport policies: methods, models and case studies, strategies to foster behaviour change in transport (e.g. gamification), innovative shared mobility solutions in cities and innovative transport solutions able to combine freight and passenger mobility. The Logistics of Living in Cities. This is the topic for the thematic session of Cluster 3 (Logistics and Freight). Cluster 3 welcome papers that address the balance of efficient and economical goods movement that can meet customer needs, and resident’s desires. Topics of interest include growing markets for on-demand and crowd-source delivery, transportation impacts from e-commerce, approaches to creating and incentivizing delivery nodes, modes and operations for improving the final fifty feet and innovative governance approaches. Spatial interaction and regional development. The thematic session of Cluster 4 (Travel, Migration, Housing, and Labour Markets) aims to bridge social-scientific econometric and geo-computational methods to commonly used models in transport and accessibility. Topics of research include the relationships between commuting and migration in urban, peri-urban and rural areas, studies of the relationship between commuting length and housing prices, the role of urban form, local and regional organization of service, jobs and amenities for the spatial interaction, time-space constraints, labour market and mobility and studies of dimensions of inequality between urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Tourism in Open and Happy Cities. Cluster 5 (Tourism, Leisure and Recreation) seeks papers linking transport, tourism and sustainable and happy cities. Topics of interest include transport networks and soft mobility in urban tourism, tourism and the creative economy, tourists and residents interaction models and empirical evidence, determinants of urban tourism attractiveness and urban tourism policies and management. Happiness through Accessibility. Cluster 6 (Accessibility) calls for papers dealing with accessibility as a mean to create more livable cities. What role can accessibility play to positively impact the wellbeing of individuals through planning for liveable cities? The topics of interest include socio-economic inequality and access to transport, accessibility, well-being, and resilience, individual accessibility analyses and participation in planning processes, interactive accessibility evaluation and decision-making, accessibility and transport sustainability and theoretical and empirical advances on accessibility. Changing landscapes of mobility for future social and health inequalities. Cluster 7 (Social and Health issues) is seeking papers exploring the nexus between emerging social research and health methodologies. The topics of interest include the impacts of transport systems and policies on social and health inequalities, inequalities in transport and health for socially vulnerable groups, inequalities in access to services and activity centers and conceptual and empirical studies exploring the relationships between travel and physical/mental health, and methodologies to measure and assess these. Innovations in human scale mobility systems. The cluster 8 (ICT) thematic call for papers focuses on potential uptake and impacts of mobility innovations. Topics of interest for the special sessions include new ICT related mobility innovations, impact of smart mobility/ICT, business and value cases of smart mobility, governance of smart mobility and data analytics for understanding current travel behaviour.
