If you are running several processes in parallel by starting them in different terminals, you are actually taking advantage of the several cores of your CPU already.
That being said, it may be a better idea to use GNU Parallel [1] or similar tools so you do not have to manually ensure that you always have a certain number of processes running. But using a proper job scheduler will not be any faster than manually running 8 instances in 8 terminals.
In practice, it still helps though because it reduces the waiting time to start a new job when an old one has finished to zero more or less. And of course it removes the need to constantly monitor the processes. (You can tell it to run 100 subjects and ensure that no more than 8 are running at once.)
