In the interest of providing a full narrative of the solution to this problem on the message board, I wanted to respond to this. Matthew, I deeply appreciated your help. In looking at this issue, I realized that the likely culprit was the nature of my computer's network access, which appeared to have compromised my ability to properly install FSL. Rather than wasting the group's time trying to circumnavigate this problem, I simply decided to rectify this networking issue. I now have access to a full and working installation of FSL.
