Glasgow Science Centre are looking for Secondary Teachers of Science with knowledge of either the English or Welsh Curriculum to complete a work package involving 6 half-day sessions (4 hours per day) to be completed over Dec 18 - Jan 19. Payment for completion of the work package is £720 on a consultancy basis - invoice payment. Please note, the work is expected to be completed remotely i.e. through shared documents and communication online.
GSC partner with OurFuture.Energy which has been developed to encourage young people to become appreciative of the critical role of the UK energy sector, the basic science behind it and the challenges we face in balancing our energy use and supply to meet demand. The rich, educational resources it hosts were developed to appeal directly to 11-16-year-old students across the UK (CfE/Nat4-5/Highers & KS3/4); however, as we further develop the resource we want to shift our target audience to teachers who can then share the content through their classroom lessons or direct students to content for additional project/study work.
We currently have in the region of 130 items of content, which have been developed or sourced through our partners (Glasgow Science Centre, OPITO, Urenco, Renewables UK and UKOOG). These items of energy-themed content range from articles to infographics, quizzes, videos, animations and PDF downloads. A small number have been developed specifically as a resource with teachers in mind, but most are framed to appeal directly to students.
We require expertise and assistance from Secondary Teachers of Science with strong knowledge of the Welsh or English Curriculum to provide the following information against each item of content:
1) Assess usefulness of the item – e.g. is the information current, or has it dated; is it suitable for use in classroom or lesson planning?
2) What is its relevance to the curriculum – specifically, what are the learning objectives and connections to learning outcomes that it satisfies?
3) Any additional notes about potential use of the item – e.g. is it presented in a useable format for teaching? How could it be improved?
GSC will then use this information to update each of the resources with the identified curriculum links, and improve the search and filtering functionality on the website to make it easier for teachers to find content that’s relevant.
We are looking for someone with a degree or postgraduate qualification in secondary education, with strong current practical experience teaching science in secondary schools and up to date knowledge of the Welsh or English science curriculum.
Please visit the GSC website for full job role details.
