If you can get at a cylinder of CO2,wear cold-proof gloves, turn it upside down so you tap high pressure liquid rather than gaseous CO2, catch what comes out in a bag, you will have a snow of dry ice. Cooling is by adiabatic expansion.
Better if you can get a syphon cylinder and a proper nozzle but it can be done relatively safely as above.
I guess you could even use a CO2 fire extinguisher as long as you got it recharged.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Small Amount of Dry Ice Needed for a Sci-Comms Lesson
Dear Psci-Com,
I have been asked to give a talk on the brain to a class of 7yr olds. I would like to jazz up the lesson with some classic water-on-dry-ice smoke billowing out of containers effects.
However, I no longer work in the lab so I don’t have access to the stuff anymore.
Does anyone have a recommended place for sourcing small amounts of dry ice? I don’t want to spend nearly 30 pounds for 2.5 kgs when all I need is a beaker of the stuff.
Alternatively does anyone live in the East Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds area that can supply me with a small amount?
Any help gratefully received.
Best regards,
Adam Tozer
