The School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures at the University of Edinburgh is pleased to invite applications from outstanding candidates for a Masters scholarships for entry in 2019-20.
The scholarships are open to new Masters students who will be based in the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures, which includes Asian Studies, Celtic & Scottish Studies, English Literature, European Languages & Cultures, Film Studies, Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies, Theatre Studies, and Translation Studies. The School has a vibrant international community of 450 postgraduate students and 160 academic staff. We have regular research seminars, and postgraduate students run and edit the peer-reviewed journal Forum, which publishes contributions from postgraduates working on culture and the arts. Students benefit from direct access to the cultural life of Scotland’s capital city, with the National Library of Scotland (one of only six copyright libraries in the UK and Ireland), the National Museum of Scotland, National Galleries, Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals, and theatres such as the Traverse, Scotland’s theatre for new writing.
Colleagues in German contribute to a range of cross-disciplinary taught Masters programmes in the School, including the MSc in Comparative Literature, the MSc in Translation Studies, the MSc in Film Studies, and the MSc in Theatre & Performance, as well as the MSc by Research in Gender & Culture. We are also offer an MSc by Research in German Studies. The School will be awarding two Arthur Kitchin Scholarships. These awards cover tuition fees for a maximum of one year at the Home/EU rate for the chosen taught or research Masters programme of study (up to a maximum of £10,100). Successful Overseas applicants will be liable for the difference between the Home/EU and Overseas fees rates. Applicants to two-year programmes or part-time Masters programmes including distance learning are eligible to apply, but they will be liable for any tuition fees in excess of £10,100.
Deadline: 10 April 2019 (application for a Masters place); 1 May 2019 (scholarship application).
Dr Georg Heuser Memorial Scholarship. This award of £3,000 will support postgraduates with a research focus on German literature, especially pre-1856, on any of the following MSc programmes: MScR German Studies (with a focus on literature); MSc Comparative Literature; MSc Medieval Literatures and Cultures; Msc Theatre and Performance Studies; MSc Translation Studies.
Deadline: 13 June 2019.
