We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 11th Annual Pronunciation in Second Language Learning and Teaching (PSLLT) conference, September 12-14, 2019 at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. 



The theme for PSLLT 2019 will be 'Interdisciplinary Intersections in Pronunciation Learning and Teaching', with keynote speaker Dr. Doug Biber (Northern Arizona University).



The conference will be preceded by two workshops: (1) conducting L2 pronunciation research (by Drs. Tracey Derwing and Murray Munro) and (2) building spoken corpora (by Dr. Eric Friginal) on September 12, 2019. 



On September 14, 2019, we will also have a Language Learning Roundtable discussion with the following speakers: 

•	Pragmatics: Naoko Taguchi, Carnegie Mellon University

•	Instructed SLA: Shawn Loewen, Michigan State University

•	Health Care Communication: Donald Rubin, University of Georgia

English Pronunciation: Issues & Practices (EPIP) is a biannual scientific conference that brings together researchers and teachers of English, phonetics, phonology, SLA and EFL/ESL interested in the issues relevant to English pronunciation, both native and non-native.

- Abstract (400-500 words excluding references) 

- Keywords (up to 5 keywords)

The abstract should reflect the purpose and the content of the presentation. It should make reference to a theoretical framework and show awareness of previous research in the area. It should also contain a clear description of the research methodology employed and the most important findings and implications. 



Each person may submit no more than one abstract as the first author. The first author will have to register for the conference in order to be assured of a place on the programme. Doctoral students currently pursuing a PhD degree or who have just earned their degree are encouraged to submit an abstract related to their research in order to compete for the Best PhD presentation award honouring Dr. Alexander Kautzsch. For this award, students can submit proposals on any topic listed above, even if it is not closely related to Dr. Kautzsch’s research interests. 



The deadline for abstract submission is December 15, 2018. Please include your name and surname in the document file name (e.g. Name_Surname_epip2019.docx) and send it to epip2019gmail.com 



The abstracts will undergo an anonymous peer-review process. The authors will receive notification of acceptance by January 15, 2019. Registration opens February 1, 2019.

The AHRC Northern Bridge Consortium for Doctoral Training Partnership 

(NBCDTP) offers tuition fees and £14,777 per annum funding for 42 months 

(http://www.northernbridge.ac.uk/). Award-holders may extend their 

studentship to pursue an approved research training programme or to 

undertake a placement by a further 6 months, and successful applicants 

can apply for additional funding during their studentship to support 

their research costs and individual training needs. In addition to the 

standard PhD pathway, students can apply under the collaborative 

doctoral pathway, through which applicants develop a research project in 

collaboration with a partner organisation, and spend a substantial 

portion of their doctoral study at the partner organisation.



The ESRC Northern Ireland and North East Doctoral Training Partnership 

(NINEDTP) offer +3, +3.5, 1+3 and, for Language Based Area Studies only, 

2+3 awards (https://www.ninedtp.ac.uk/). The awards cover tuition fees 

and for the duration of the degree. Award-holders may also apply for 

research training support grants, internships and placements, and 

overseas fieldwork and difficult language training, as well as overseas 

institutional visits. However, these need to be laid out clearly at the 

application stage and are considered on a case-by-case basis. In 

addition to the standard PhD pathway, students can apply under the 

collaborative doctoral pathway, through which applicants develop a 

research project in collaboration with a partner organisation.

The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University will make a tenure-track appointment in phonetics at the Assistant Professor level, to begin on August 16, 2019. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Linguistics by the time of the appointment, college-level teaching experience and native or near native English language proficiency. The candidate should have a record of high quality research in experimental linguistic phonetics in the form of publications or presentations, and demonstrate a promising trajectory of scholarly engagement. 



Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and scholarly interests complement and connect with those of our current faculty. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and scholarly interests complement and connect with those of our current faculty. Applicants whose research engages in the interface between subfields or who have a secondary specialization in fieldwork or experimental/computational methodologies are particularly encouraged. 



The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. 



The appointment is expected to begin August 26, 2019. Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics by time of appointment.

Job Description:

- New language/voices development

- Linguistic services

- Update linguistic/phonetic components/data

- Voice recordings



Requirements:

- A degree in Computational Linguistics is a plus or relevant experience

- Native Swedish, additional Nordic languages are an asset

- Fluent in English

- Good scripting language knowledge (like Python/Perl)

- Good phonetic and linguistic knowledge

- Working knowledge of Windows and/or Linux

- Team player with good interpersonal skills

- Strong commitment to the job
