Job Opportunity at The National Archives
Head of Programmes and Policy - Maternity Cover 6 months
We currently have an exciting opportunity to lead the Programmes and Policy Team in Archive Sector Development at the National Archives. This is an opportunity to be part of shaping transformative programmes, as we look to deliver against Archives Unlocked the strategic vison for the archives sector, with an action plan which has recently been refreshed.
The Programmes and Policy team shapes and delivers time-limited programmes and a core training offer to address priority development areas for the sector. You will therefore be responsible for leading on the design and delivery of key national development programmes, and related funding bids.
About the role
With the recent publication of our Workforce Development Strategy, a core part of the role will be to shape and take forward a delivery programme that will support the sector to meet the goals outlined in the strategy. You will also be responsible for driving a range of ongoing sector programmes, including Archives Revealed, which is the only funding stream in the UK dedicated to cataloguing and unlocking archives, and Bridging the Digital Gap, our HLF funded training programme, aimed at bringing young people with digital aptitude into the archive sector. ASD's communications with the sector also sit under your remit, and you will have an opportunity to build up and enhance our communications strategy.
About you
As someone who will be leading our policy and programmes work you will have strong relationship building skills, with both individuals and organisations, to lead to partnership working and concrete impacts. You will be able to engage, influence and negotiate effectively, internally and externally with authority at a senior level. You will have the ability to translate strategic opportunities into development programmes to build sector capacity, and will join us with extensive experience of project and portfolio management, from design to full completion and evaluation. In particular, you will have experience in workforce development and awareness of government initiatives in this area. Team management will also be a real strength, with the ability to sustain a cohesive unit to bring out the best in your colleagues.
Join us here in beautiful Kew, just 10 minutes' walk from the Overground and Underground stations, and you can expect an excellent range of benefits. They include a pension and discounts with local businesses (e.g. beauty salons and bars). We also offer wellbeing resources (e.g. on-site therapists) and have an on-site gym, restaurant, shop and staff bar.
Closing date: 21st November 2018 at midnight
Salary: £43k - £48k
