*P044 Title*
Body and public space: between art and politics
*Short abstract*
Experiences that challenge the traditionally established limits of the
fields of art and politics have emerged recently. The panel seeks to
theoretical /ethnographic researches focused on the contemporary forms of
activism and artistic experiences, trying to perceive how they challenge
the boundaries between the political and artistic and, between the public
and private spheres.
*Long abstract*
In recent years, a series of experiences that challenge the traditionally
established limits of the fields of art and politics have emerged:
practices that cut across aesthetic creation and activism, establishing
dialogues with either the history of artistic activism or with the renewal
of ways of doing politics in social movements. We address the discussion to
the operationalization of the creative practices that problematize the
boundaries of a supposed autonomy of the artistic field, as well as the
contemporary impasses of the modes of collective organization. The body
(including that of the researcher himself) and the occupation of public
spaces are highlighted here, as Judith Butler suggested in her discussion
of “politics of the street”. The limits of what is considered legitimate
and proper political action come together in an inseparable way to allow a
questioning about the place of the body, its powers, vulnerabilities and
displacements of the borders between public and private space in
contemporary political practices. The panel seeks to welcome theoretical and
ethnographic researches that focuses on the contemporary forms of activism
and artistic experiences, trying to perceive how they challenge the
boundaries between the political and artistic fields and between the public
and private spheres.
