Nous vous invitons cordialement à nous joindre pour une exceptionnelle
séance inaugurale du séminaire “Réécrire le passé colonial : enjeux
contemporains des collections de musée” (EHESS – ENS) qui aura lieu le 19
novembre 2018, entre 15 et 18h, au 29 rue d'Ulm, bâtiment Jaurès, salle
23.

Cette séance a pour thème “FIND THE LESS GOOD IDEA” et consistera en trois
interventions – performances
-        Un extrait de la performance de Nhlanhla Mahlangu intitulée “Chant”
-        Un extrait de la performance "Pan Troglodyte" de Jane Taylor
(curatrice) et Tony Miyambo (acteur)
-        Finalement, une intervention de l’artiste Bronwyn Lace (directrice
du Center for the Less Good Idea) portant sur “Chasing the Less Good Idea”
(le fichier joint contient de courtes descriptions des interventions,
biographies des invités  et quelques références bibliographiques).

Le séminaire sera introduit par les organisatrices de la séance: Damiana
Otoiu (Université de Bucarest) et Anna Seiderer (Université Paris 8
Vincennes-Saint-Denis) et la discussion sera modérée par Alexander Schellow
(artiste, Berlin).

L’événement est organisé en partenariat avec le Centre for the Less Good
Idea (centre fondé en 2017 par William Kentridge) et avec l’Institut
Francais d’Afrique du Sud (IFAS Recherche).

Le séminaire "Réécrire le passé colonial : enjeux contemporains des
collections de musée"  s’inscrit dans l’axe « Musées et héritages
coloniaux» du Centre Maurice Halbwachs, CMH (CNRS, École des Hautes Études
en Sciences Sociales de Paris, ENS/ PSL Research University). D’autres
institutions et projets sont associées au séminaire : le Département
d'histoire de l'art de l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, le
Département d’Arts Plastiques de l’Université Paris 8 Vincennes Saint
Denis, le Département de sciences sociales de l’École normale supérieure,
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (The Centre for Anthropological Research on
Museums and Heritage), l’Université Paris Lumières pour le projet «
Glissements de terrain. Les collections muséales réinvesties par le champ
de l’art contemporain », le CIERA pour le projet « France et Allemagne face
aux héritages coloniaux : relectures contemporaines des collections de
musée » et l’axe de recherche « Processus de patrimonialisation, usages et
mises en musée du passé » du Centre Régional Francophone de Recherches
Avancées en Sciences Sociales, Université de Bucarest.

Dear colleagues,
We would like to invite you to join us for an exceptional inaugural session
of the seminar "Rewriting the Colonial Past: Contemporary Issues in Museum
Collections" (EHESS - ENS) which will take place on the 19th of November
2018, between 15:00-18:00, at 29 rue d'Ulm, building Jaurès, room 23.

This first session is entitled "FIND THE LESS GOOD IDEA" and will consist
of three interventions - performances
- An excerpt from Nhlanhla Mahlangu's performance entitled "Chant"
- An excerpt from the performance "Pan Troglodyte" by Jane Taylor (curator)
and Tony Miyambo (actor)
- Finally, an intervention by the artist Bronwyn Lace (director of the
Center for the Less Good Idea) on "Chasing the Less Good Idea"
(The attached file contains short descriptions of the interventions,
biographies of the guests and some bibliographical references).

The seminar will be introduced by the convenors of the session: Damiana
Otoiu (University of Bucharest) and Anna Seiderer (University of Paris 8
Vincennes-Saint-Denis) and the discussion will be moderated by Alexander
Schellow (artist, Bruxelles).

The event is organized in partnership with the Centre for the Less Good
