DESCRIPTION
The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at the University of
California, Santa Barbara invites applications for Visiting Assistant
Professor faculty positions in Statistics for the 2019-2020 academic year
(with the possibility of renewal up to 3 years), with an anticipated start
date of July 1, 2019. Candidates whose research and teaching interests
overlap with our new research group in Data Science are especially
encouraged to apply.
The Department comprises 15 permanent faculty members, as well as more than
half a dozen visitors and postdocs. Our vibrant research atmosphere is
driven by interdisciplinary research groups in Data Science, Biostatistics,
and Financial and Actuarial Mathematics. The Department offers three
different Undergraduate Majors, an MA in Applied Statistics and an
extensive PhD program. A full year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment
carries a teaching load of 5 one-quarter courses per year. Departmental
teaching includes upper-division undergraduate courses in statistics,
regression, time-series, design of experiments, statistical computing,
probability and stochastic processes. Subject to budgetary approval, some
positions will carry a reduced teaching load.
Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent)
except the dissertation at the time of application and should have
completed their PhD (or equivalent) by the time of appointment. Successful
applicants will demonstrate or show strong promise for undergraduate
teaching, collaborative research and synergies with
UCSB Statistics and Applied Probability faculty. The University is
