AI in Social and Engineering Systems Faculty Positions, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
he MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) is seeking candidates for tenure-track faculty positions starting in July 2019 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. Appointments will be made in partnership with MIT departments and IDSS. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics or a related field by the start of their employment. Faculty duties include teaching, research, supervision of graduate and undergraduate students and service to the Institute and profession.
The search is focused on the general area of AI as it interacts with physical or social systems. We will consider candidates with backgrounds and interests in the general areas of networks, statistics, machine learning and data-driven decision making as they pertain to complex societal challenges. The research is expected to rigorously highlight the role of inference, learning, adaptation, or real time decision making on the performance and resilience of such systems. Our focus will be particularly on candidates whose work has strong foundation in one or more social science disciplines.
