Hi All,
We're looking into purchasing a Covergold Bookeye 4 professional kiosk to replace our current Zeutschel.
I was wondering if there's anyone in the library community who uses this machine for their scanner needs. We would be using it for scanning under the CLA licence and also scanning up to entire books for students registered on our Digitisation Service for Disabled Students.
Any experiences at all would be appreciated! Is it easy to use, for example? We're also looking at getting a subscription to ABBYY Corporate along with it. We've been promised the machine is able to produce OCR PDF, Word Document and Plain Text simultaneously (very exciting). I was wondering if anyone had this too and how satisfied they were with the quality of the conversions.
On a related but separate note, is there a Jiscmail list for general digitisation queries? I know there's one for the Digital Content Store and I think there's one for TADC users too. I had a look and couldn't seem to find a general one for those of us who spend a great deal of time under the light of an enormous scanner! If there's not one, I was wondering if there would be interest in getting one going? More often than not I have a query that's about digitising and copyright in general rather than using the Digital Content Store and it would be useful to be able to ask both groups (and any other digitisers out there).
All the best,
David
