A Commemoration of the Work of Professor Barbara Harrell-Bond

A renowned academic and activist who devoted her life in the pursuit of refugee protection, Harrell-Bond founded FMRS ( CMRS Predecessor ) in 2000 fol¬lowing the footsteps of Oxford University’s Refugees Studies Center. She also served as FMRS Acting Director from 2002-2003 after which she continued as an advisor and professor till 2008 when she left Cairo. In 2005, while still living in Cairo, she was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her contribution to refugee studies.
The event will include the screening of the documentary “Barbara Harrell-Bond: A life not Ordinary” produced by Katarzyna Grabska, a former FMRS staff member and researcher who worked directly with Harrell-Bond. Grabska with many other academics, activists and Alumni in Cairo, who were honored to work with Harrell-Bond, will share their experiences in working with her through her journey of promoting refugees’ rights.
