The Transport and Health Science Group is a scientific society committed to understanding the relationships between transport and health and their policy implications and ensuring that these are made known to policy makers and opinion formers.
THSG produced Health on the Move 2 (HotM2), the definitive work of reference on the subject, sponsors the award winning Journal of Transport and Health; and helped found the International Conference on Transport and Health. Members receive a free licence to HoTM2 and a discount to the JTH.
It is possible to join us in three ways:
- membership of THSG is incorporated into membership of the International Professional Association of Transport & Health
- THSG membership costs £10 a year (£5 if you join as part of a local group of at least 7 members)
- the opportunity to participate in our meetings and discussions, but not the more specific benefits of membership such as the discount or the licence, are available by joining the Transport Special Interest Group of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK, which we manage. Membership of the SIG is free to FPH members.
Just over half of the members of THSG are in the UK but we are also an international society with organised arrangements in Europe and Latin America plus an agency arrangement in North America via IPATH.
The following workstreams operate in the UK:-
* Finance & Business Case
* Communications
* Transport Infrastructure
* Transport Injuries
* Walking and Cycling
* Cycle Safety
* Community Severance
* Older People, Disabled People and Demand Responsive Transport
* Highways and Traffic Engineering
* Air Quality
* Transport and Gender
We currently operate as an entirely volunteer organisation and would welcome individuals willing to contribute to the above workstreams or to help administer the group.
We are also interested in pursuing bids to help us obtain the funds to employ staff so that we can make our work more systematic
