Dear Colleagues,
Apologies for cross-posting.
We are currently looking to employ a postdoctoral researcher on the Innovate UK funded project: “Rapid Calibration for Operational and Strategic Digital Twins.” The project is part of an industry-led project, which aims to develop a framework to enable the rapid calibration of digital twins.
This full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 31st May 2020. The project will exploit Bayesian optimisation approaches for expensive and highly parametrised multi-objective optimisation problems.
A 'digital twin' is a computational mode of a real-world system that can be interrogated in place of the real-world system. Such models require calibration -- adjusting their free parameters such that the twin represents its respective system accurately. The benefit of using a digital twin is that many different scenarios can be simulated much more cheaply the modifying the real system to see the effect -- however if the twin is poorly calibrated, conclusions drawn from observing the behaviour of the twin may be misleading. This may in turn lead to poor decisions being made regarding changes to the real-world system.
