Dear All,
I work for a local authority archive service and we are in the early stages of setting up a new education programme for schools. At the moment, we are looking at working with years 5/6 and possibly 3/4. If we can get something going that works, we will possibly look to extend it. We are aware that the current curriculum for these years stops at 1066, but we have done some work with a partner organisation and hope that we can pitch our sessions as enrichment opportunities, enhancing and consolidating pupils' existing literacy and numeracy skills. We are also planning to create a session around the existing local history aspect of the curriculum.
We have been in touch with our HR department and they have said that we won't need to be DBS checked for what we need to do, but the partner organisation (not part of the local authority) has suggested that we should be - everyone involved with their school education programme has enhanced DBS. I wondered if anyone else involved with working with schools has DBS checks and what level they have if so.
I also wanted to ask if services which already have a school education programme charge for their services and, if so, how much. Has anyone found that take up has dropped due to the continued squeeze on school budgets, or due to the current curriculum?
Any other advice / information / suggestions on school education programmes would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Nichola
