Hi Helen,
At City Ramandan affects a large proportion of our students - ~2k students could be fasting so it isn't possible to make alternative arrangements for this number of exams. We have an Imam on staff who advises that fasting itself doesn't fall under our religious observance policy as that is reserved for religious events where University activities are prevented e.g. work is prohibited (in this case it is usually only 1 day affected e.g. Shavuot and the exams would be moved to accommodate).
Where students fall ill as a result of fasting this is covered under our normal extenuating circumstances.
On advice from our Imam that concentration becomes more difficult towards the end of the day, the adjustment we make is to limit the number of 18:00 exam starts for all students - and in the past 2 years have been able to entirely run the summer exams with only our 10:00 and 14:30 sessions.

Dear all
I am trying to establish Sector best practice in respects of Ramadan and 'reasonable adjustments' you may make/consider for example during exams.
Happy to share findings.
Many thanks
Kind regards
Helen
