Dear Colleagues,
This is an announcement of the one-day workshop "Symmetries, asymptotics and multi-scale approaches", which Mircea Petrache (PUC, Chile) and myself are jointly organising in London on the 30th November 2018 for the Applied Probability Section of the Royal Statistical Society.
One important feature in many multi-scale models is the presence and quantification of some kind of symmetries, either of scaling type or the ones given by spatial actions which allow to reduce the complexity of the models, often in a quantitative/quantifiable way. Our main goal in this meeting is to allow a mutual inspiration between pure and applied mathematicians, by highlighting differences and parallels in the appearance of the above principles and phenomena in varied fields.
We are pleased to announce that the following leading researchers have agreed to give talks in the workshop:
Mark Girolami (Imperial College London)
Martin Hairer (Imperial College London)
Pronob Mitter (Université de Montpellier)
Clement Mouhot (University of Cambridge)
Grigoris Pavliotis (Imperial College London)
Balint Toth (University of Bristol)
The workshop is funded by the RSS, and will take place at Royal Statistical Society Headquarters, 12 Errol Street, EC1Y 8LX London.
Registration is free for RSS members and costs £25 for non-RSS members. The registration fee will cover lunch and refreshments throughout the day for all registered participants.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you there!
Best regards,
